This project is for an office design for a research and development team (20 people) of Alpha line of DSL cameras of SONY corporation.

Client’s  requirements for the office:

• Informal atmosphere for supporting teamwork
• More light and make most of the natural light
• Incorporating nature (outdoors coming indoors)
• Creating a relaxed and calming atmosphere

The inspiration for the design concept came from a sakura bloom which has a deep philosophical meaning in the Japanese culture. Given the mental intensity of the research work, we brought in some nature indoors through the use of an atrium in the work area and a smaller atrium in a relaxation zone.

Instead of having a traditional conference room setting, we opted for a much more dynamic and less formal conference room setting.  Here we drew our inspiration from the ancient Greeks and Greek amphitheaters.

In three bathrooms we set the tone using three SONY World Photography Award pictures custom printed as a wallpaper.
